2023 Oogie Boogie Bash Information

ree

Tickets for the always fabulous Oogie Boogie Bash go on sale to the general public tomorrow, Tuesday, July 11th no earlier than 9:00 am PST. This is one of Janette’s favorite events of the year at any Disney Park! Want to know if this is something your family should consider as part of your Halloween celebration? We have all the details below!

Pro Tip: tickets for this event sell out in a day. If you want to attend, you have to plan ahead! Want to attend this year- let's chat right away and find you some dates to visit the Disneyland Resort!

At Disney’s California Adventure Park, Oogie Boogie is calling all Halloween lovers to come celebrate the spooky season and experience some mischievous fun. This family-friendly event runs Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings during September and October each year. Anyone visiting the Disneyland Resort those months should be aware of which nights the party is happening- it helps you plan your days with that extra influx of crowds!

The party itself runs for five hours, from 6:00-11:00 pm. Oogie Boogie Bash guests are able to enter the park at 3:00 pm, a few hours before the party officially starts. No theme park reservation required. This extra time allows you to grab something to eat and get your plans ready so you don’t waste a minute! There will be a decently long line to enter at 3:00 pm. Grand Californian Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel guests are able to enter through their private entrance, a big bonus!

Some of the things we love about this Halloween Party are:

ree

Dressing Up: just the people watching alone is amazing, but this is your chance as an adult to go all out on your Halloween costume! No full face masks or dragging capes, but really your only limit is your creativity! There are truly some detailed and elaborate costumes, and the group costumes areadorable. Janette’s family attended as Monsters, Inc. characters last year and had the best time!

Trick or Treat Trails: There are 11 trick or treat trails to visit- two of the trails are candy only, and 9 of the trails have interactive villains for you to enjoy. They really do interact with you and put on a show while you are walking through the line! Their backdrops are creative and well done, and the characters themselves are in rare form! Each line has 5-7 stations with a treat- so you can see how your treat stash adds up quickly!

Some of our favorites have been Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, and Agatha from Wandavision. We went through Agatha’s line several times (to get grapes, see below), and she was almost successful in getting my youngest to stay with her and join her Coven! This year it has been announced the Lotso from Toy Story will be joining the villain line up.

M&M’s, Skittles, Snickers, and other Halloween favorites are included in your treat walk, but that isn’t all. Disney also have things like Sun Chips, Pirate’s Booty, Craisins, dried apple slices, carrots, and our personal favorite, the GRAPES! There is no limit to how many times you can visit the treat trail, so we would visit the trail with the grapes whenever we were hungry!

Pro Tip: Disney provides you with a TINY bag for your treats, and it isn’t enough! Bring yourself a big backpack or some larger tote bags to carry your goodies (and consider staying at the Grand Californian so you can run them back to your room, super convenient!) You can also utilize the lockers at the front of the park to hold your goodies until it is time to go.

Pro Tip: We like to hit the candy trails early in the party- the lines are a little bit shorter, and then we are able to ditch our candy and not carry it the rest of the evening.

Mickey’s Trick or Treat: watch Mickey Mouse and friends as they headline a live show filled with not-so-scary Halloween tales. This is definitely geared towards younger guests, but kids at heart will also find it amusing!

ree

Carthay Circle Bell Tower: stop by the main square at the front of California Adventure for some fun, spooky décor! Around the fountain, you will also find various, rare characters doing meet and greets.

Frightfully Fun Parade: see some unique characters with fun Halloween theming, including the headless horseman. There are usually two showings- one at 7:45 pm and a second showing at 10:00 pm. It lasts about 12 minutes- so watching it won't take up your entire night. Both of the parades start by the Silly Symphony Swings, head down by the Little Mermaid, and then down Hollywood Blvd. The parade route is long, so find a spot without waiting out all night is pretty easy to do! There are also dining/dessert packages for the parade if you would like a guaranteed seat with prime viewing. We think this is worth watching.

Villains Grove Experience: if attending Oogie Boogie Bash, make sure to experience Villains Grove in the Redwood Creek Challenge area. What is it? Hard to explain! It is an experience with light and sound as you walk along a guided path. The fog and mist contain areas to discover the Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts, Scar, and more. While the characters are not physically there, different sections of the grove give you a chance to interact in a new and exciting way. You won't find anything else quite like this anywhere at Disney. I would wait and go when it is DARK outside, it adds to the experience. And don't miss walking through the tunnel at the shadowed photo spot!

Character Meet and Greets: these actually have the longest lines of the night. Disney brings out some unique characters you don’t usually see at the Parks. Kingdom Hearts characters always have long lines, Mickey and Minnie together, and last year Minnie and friends dressed as the Sanderson Sisters were a huge hit! We chose not to wait in line for these, but took our time walking and interacting with the villains on the Treat Trails instead.

Short Attraction Wait Times: while we wouldn’t go as far as to say there are no lines, your waits will be significantly shorter for attractions than during regular hours. Make sure you sneak in a few of your favorite rides!

Some guests like to take advantage of the shorter attraction wait times for attractions during the party, but we suggest prioritizing exclusive party things once the party begins at 6:00 pm. Some attractions, such as Guardians of the Galaxy: After Dark, can be a spooky fun addition to other events. Do what is most important to your group! Remember you can get in line right before 11:00 pm when the party closes and you can still ride the attraction!

ree

Commemorative Keepsakes: enjoy unlimited downloads of Disney PhotoPass digital photos captured from 6-11pm, during the party. You simply scan the QR code on your event wristband via the Disneyland App to access them! They can be downloaded up to 45 days following your visit to the event.

Sound fun? Let’s get planning!
